Each league that has trading enabled has a non-waiver trading deadline. In OOTP, trading can occur at any time of the year. However, trades between the day after trading deadline and the last day of the playoffs are considered "waiver trades." In order to complete a waiver trade, all players involved in the trade must first clear waivers. Effectively, this means that very few players are traded after the deadline. Waiver trades are typically for very weak players who other teams would not want to claim off waivers, or for players whose salaries are prohibitive.

The Trading Deadline is a league-specific trade setting.

See Waiver Trades for a more detailed explanation of how to execute a waiver trade.
