Most players like to manage major league teams, but in OOTP, you can also choose to manage an affiliated team, most typically a minor league team. In this case, gameplay is a little bit different. By default, an OOTP human manager has both general manager and manager responsibilities. However, a minor league manager is only in charge of lineups and depth charts for his team, and managing games if you choose to play them out. Your GM (the computer) will handle all roster moves, transactions, and trades. Note that the Manager Options screen changes when you are a minor league manager.

Promotions

If you are managing a minor league team, there is a chance that you could be periodically promoted to a higher position. If this happens, you will receive a message like this one: However, even if you are doing well, there is no guarantee that ownership will decide to promote you. You may need to keep your eye on other job opportunities as well.

Transaction Notifications

As a minor league manager, you don't have control over the transactions your general manager makes. As a result, it can make it difficult to field a competitive team if your GM is moving all of your parts around. Still, at least they're kind enough to send you a notification any time they make a roster move involving the team you manage: Be sure to keep an eye out for these messages, and make the appropriate changes to your lineups and depth charts.
